Sylvan K-5 STEAM Program

What is STEAM?

* SCIENCE * TECHNOLOGY * ENGINEERING * ARTS * MATH *

The Institute of Arts Integration and STEAM defines STEAM education as "an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking."

STEAM students are shown how to effectively collaborate and communicate with others as they work through the creative process.  They are taught early on that sometimes the most growth occurs when their team fails, re-thinks the problem, and brainstorms another solution.  This is an example of a Growth Mindset -- the idea that skills and abilities can improve over time when we make mistakes.
