VOLT COVID-19 response plan

The State of California has approved our county variance application. This new state approval will allow for our county to move forward into an expanded stage 2 with modifications.

VOLT Institute staff are working in collaboration with local health departments and other relevant

partners to ensure all safety measures and guidelines are followed.

VOLT Institute staff is planning to reopen campus in the following timeline with the below safety

guidelines in place;

  • Starting June 1, Teachers and staff will prepare the training rooms with 6 foot distance between desks, which will all face the same direction.
  • Starting June 15, VOLT will implement classes with only 1 student per teacher for a total of 4 people (2-teachers, 2-students).

  • Entrances to the training facility will be restricted to the Career Pathway Office on the I Street side of the building for VOLT students. This will reduce contact with other division staff and other program participants.
  • Provide temperature and/or symptom screenings for all students at the beginning of their class and any vendors, contractors, or other visitors entering the establishment.

SCOE staff will provide training on COVID-19 guidelines to all teaching staff.

  • Information on COVID-19, how to prevent it from spreading will be shared with students.
  • Staff will provide students with the COVID-19 guidelines as set forth by SCOE and review them for clarity.

PPE - masks/gloves/safety glasses proper use of face coverings.

  • Proper use of PPE such as safety glasses and gloves are required in lab areas. 
  • Face coverings are required at all times while on campus.
  • Face coverings should be put on before entering the building.
  • Face coverings can help protect people near the wearer, but do not replace the need for physical distancing and frequent hand washing.
  • Students should wash or sanitize hands before and after using or adjusting face coverings.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Reusable face coverings should be washed after each use.

Encourage students to wash hands often and not touch face / hand washing required prior to classes.

  • The importance of frequent handwashing with soap and water, including scrubbing with soap for 20 seconds (or using hand sanitizer with at least 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol when students cannot get to a sink or handwashing station, per CDC guidelines).
  • Hand sanitizer will be made available to instructors and students.

Sanitize equipment after each student use.

  • Perform thorough cleaning on high traffic areas such as break rooms, lunch areas, and changing areas, and areas of ingress and egress including, stairways and stairwells, handrails, and elevators controls. Frequently disinfect commonly used surfaces, including, doorknobs, toilets, and hand-washing facilities.
  • Clean touchable surfaces between classes or between users, whichever is more frequent, including but not limited to working surfaces, tools, handles and latches, and controls on stationary and mobile equipment, including surfaces in the cabs of all vehicles.
  • Avoid sharing phones, office supplies, other work tools, or handheld mobile communications equipment wherever possible. Individually assigned peripheral equipment (keyboards, handsets, headsets, chairs, etc.) should be provided wherever possible. If necessary, clean and disinfect them before and after each use. 
  • Never share PPE.

Sick instructors or students to go home and stay home.

  •  Encourage students or staff who are sick or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 to stay home.

Beginning June 15.

  •  VOLT will implement classes by appointment with only 1 student per teacher for a total of 4 people (2-teachers, 2-students).
